FROM SET TO EDIT SUITE

An interrupted Sony take deserves its own workflow

An FX3 interview, an FX30 production or an Alpha camera shoot may leave an RSV file after a stopped write. Keep the recording, card folders and an existing healthy take together.

01

Sony RSV file after a battery failure

An interview or production take stops before the camera finishes the movie.

CHECK FIRST

Keep the RSV under its original name, along with the card folders and an existing healthy take.

WHEN TO TRY REPAIR

The saved RSV contains media from the interrupted take. Renaming it to MP4 will not finish the recording.

FX3, FX30 or a7S III footage will not open

02

FX3, FX30 or a7S III footage will not open

The saved take has a size, but it cannot be played or imported after the camera stopped.

CHECK FIRST

Keep the camera model and recording settings with the original. Test a complete copy in a compatible player or editor.

WHEN TO TRY REPAIR

The complete original remains unreadable. A model name alone cannot determine how much content is repairable.

Writing to the memory card was not completed correctly

03

Writing to the memory card was not completed correctly

A write warning appears, and the last take is missing from camera playback or will not open.

CHECK FIRST

Copy readable card contents first. Follow the database-recovery instructions for your model only after retaining a backup; a camera database and a damaged movie are separate problems.

WHEN TO TRY REPAIR

An existing RSV or movie is still unreadable. If the card cannot be read or no file exists, storage recovery comes first.

A repaired video still will not import

04

A repaired video still will not import

The output plays partially, but an editor rejects it or the audio and picture do not line up.

CHECK FIRST

Check duration, seeking, sound synchronization and import in the intended editor separately.

NEXT STEP

If only one editor rejects a playable file, check compatibility first. If playback also fails, retain the original for further repair.

Start with the RSV, not a renamed MP4

Add a copy of the original RSV to repair. A new extension alone cannot restore the recording structure. Supply a matching clip only if requested.

Save the result, then choose your editing route

Check the output extension and open the saved file in a compatible player. If your editor needs MP4, convert only a readable output when necessary; keep the readable repaired copy as your source for conversion.

Separate camera database errors

Recover Image DB is a camera operation. Back up first and follow your model’s instructions; it does not prove the movie itself has been repaired.

The scene can be different.

Scenario illustration. Supply a matching reference only when requested.

For an interview, use another healthy take from the same recording setup; the people or scene can differ. Keep full-resolution originals separate from proxies, and use an existing clip instead of recording onto the affected card.

Matching example: resolution and frame rate

Damaged take: 3840 × 2160 at 25 fps. A suitable candidate has the same resolution and frame rate, plus matching camera, recording mode, codec and audio setup. A 1920 × 1080, 50 fps proxy is not equivalent. This is a settings example, not a measured repair result.

Sony Video Repair FAQs

Keep the original RSV and any nearby healthy clips. Submit the supported original file to the workspace and follow any reference-file request. Check the available output for playback, duration and editing use; the amount recovered depends on surviving data.

Renaming RSV to MP4 does not finalize the recording. Submit a copy of the original RSV for repair, then use the saved output and its actual file type. If you specifically need MP4 for an editor, check whether the repaired output is already MP4 or is readable in a compatible conversion tool. Repair and conversion are separate steps; this page does not promise every RSV will produce an MP4.

Provide one only if advanced repair requests it. Use an existing healthy take from the same camera and recording mode; match codec, resolution, frame rate and audio setup. For example, a 3840 × 2160, 25 fps take should be compared with a healthy clip using those same values, not a 1920 × 1080, 50 fps proxy. The scene can differ. Do not record a sample onto the affected card.

Players and editors may differ in codec and container support. Check compatibility first, then inspect the actual output for seeking, timing and audio synchronization.

No. This is a video-file repair entry for saved recordings. Physical camera faults and unreadable storage need their own service or diagnosis.

No. Sony documents it as a camera image-database operation. Back up the card before following the instructions for your model. A repaired database does not by itself prove that an interrupted movie is now complete.

Keep the original RSV or movie, its surrounding card folders and any existing healthy clip from the same recording setup. Note resolution, frame rate, codec and audio settings. Do not keep recording on the problem card just to create a reference.

Keep the complete card folder and use the editor’s camera-media import option when available. Check support for the original codec and recording mode. If the full recording plays and seeks normally, treat the issue as import compatibility first. If the original has the same playback error in a compatible player, choose it for file repair.

Review the allowance, preview and saving conditions shown by the online service before processing. Downloading the desktop installer is separate from its repair and saving license.

On-location project
Clip would not open
"One Sony clip would not open in either the player or my editor, and it was the shot connecting two scenes. Fixo gave me a usable copy of that take. I could keep the sequence as planned instead of cutting around the missing link."
The location take was still present on the camera card but its playback structure was incomplete. Noah worked from a copy and checked the transition shot in the editing timeline.
